Summer break is upon us, and I have so much to share! But first, let’s get in the summer spirit with a splashy coloring page.

After releasing Zelda’s Wish earlier this year, I’ve been taking time to explore a new story idea (and draw a few mermaids, of course). It’s funny where stories begin and where they take you. The phrase “she sells seashells” had been bouncing around my mind for a while, but I wasn’t sure how it connected to a story. A little mind-mapping left me with this string of thoughts:
seashells…summertime…souvenirs…friendship bracelet…pen pals…promises…friends forever
And this got me thinking of my own forever friends.
Through all the places life has taken me, there’s a handful of my dearest friends who remain close to my heart no matter how far apart we are.
Perhaps you have some of those too? The ones where you pick up where you left off no matter how much time has passed or the distance between you.
We’ve had to share goodbyes over the years, but that’s not what I remember about those friends. It’s our hello.
How about you? What hellos do you cherish most?
So, this is where the next story will begin. At hello.
These two will probably change a lot in the coming months. Now that we’ve said hello, I know I’ll be changed by them too. Isn’t that what the best friendships do for us?
I have a few details in mind, like a treasure hunt and sandcastle festival. But in the end, it’s going to be a story about hello.
Wishing you a happy start to the summer. Take some time to think of your hellos and what they’ve meant for you.
