“For me?” May asked, sniffing the flowers from Robin.
“Who else?” Robbin replied.
“But what’s the occasion?” May said. It wasn’t her birthday. She wasn’t sick. Was this a special day she didn’t know about?
Robin just smiled. She was always full of surprises like this.
“It’s Friends Day!” Robin exclaimed.
May had never heard of Friends Day before. Should she have brought a present?
“I don’t have anything for you,” May said, embarrassed that she wasn’t prepared for this special day.
Robin patted her on the back. “No present needed. All I want is to have a day of adventures with you. Where should we begin?”
May thought for a moment. She’d always wanted to search for pots of gold or plant trees in the forest or travel to outer space. She wanted to think of something so exciting, so extraordinary, that this would be the best Friends Day in history.
Then, a drop of rain landed right on her nose. And another and another. It was raining on Friends Day! This was a disaster! But when May saw Robin laughing in the rain, she knew just what they should do.
“Let’s go to the shore and…”
