Have you heard the bluebirds sing in the morning rain? And have you smelled fresh oranges on the branch?
I have. I have a little treehouse where I like to play. It’s in the tree I share with the bluebirds. My treehouse is just the right size, tall enough to stand but small enough to feel cozy and hidden in the branches. I spend my days basking in a patch of sunlight, eating oranges, and hanging drawings on the wall.
When I’m in my treehouse, I’m ready for any adventure. Or so I thought. I never could have guessed what I would see on this seemingly ordinary summer morning.
It’s early, just before the neighborhood woke up, when the bluebirds come. They swirl around our tree, twittering and chirping in a flurry. I’ve never seen them this way. They’re always so calm. But today, it’s like they have urgent news…just for ME!
What could be going on? I wonder.
I reach my arm through the window, offering the birds a familiar place to land. The one I’ve come to know as Mama perches on my hand, opens her beak, and starts talking!
You’ll never guess what she says…
What happens next???
